Improving page pull strength is a goal of all bookbinders and Henkel have long focussed on this when they have developed their adhesive technology in the book market. Polyurethane spine adhesives (PUR) took adhesive binding strength to dizzying new heights, but there was a major drawback to this approach. In order to use these reactive adhesives and so reap the benefits of their performance, bookbinders would need to invest in specialised equipment. In some cases, especially companies with smaller digital binding machines, the reactive nature of these adhesives meant that extra cleaning time was required, or high PUR wastage levels were created. Recognising this, Henkel developed Technomelt GA 3980 ULTRA, based on Polyolefin (PO) technology, this adhesive gives higher page strength than traditional hot melts used for perfect binding and improved heat and cold performance of your finished books. PO technology gives excellent thermal stability too, so the adhesive stays in good condition for much longer in your equipment and there is no need for any special equipment either, it can be used like a typical hot melt. Results have shown PUR-like binding strength on some papers and really nice flexibility, enhancing the appearance of your products. So, Technomelt GA 3980 ULTRA raises the bar on adhesive binding and opens up higher page strength binding to a much wider audience. It is worth remembering, however, that although Technomelt GA 3980 ULTRA significantly lifts performance levels, for ultimate high strength, durability and heat and cold resistance, PUR bound books are still at the top of the tree. Direct Adhesives have the complete range of products for all of your requirements, including high performing spine adhesives like Technomelt GA 3980 ULTRA and Technomelt PUR 3317BR as well as a complete range of other adhesives for all applications. In addition, we can supply all of the cleaners and ancillary products that help you get the very best from your binder. Just as importantly, we have the expertise and experience to make the difference and we can even page strength test your books to help you optimise your production process or validate the effectiveness of your binding. ![]() Technomelt EM 325 is a new hot melt adhesive innovation which is approved for fully recyclable containers. Developed by Henkel, global leaders in the adhesive market, Technomelt EM 325 has been fully approved by PETCYCLE, a German company formed by a collective of businesses to address recycling of PET bottles. Petcycle’s closed loop system operates in Germany and supports the use of rPET for packaging. Technomelt EM 325 is fully compatible with traditional rubber based bottle labelling adhesives and offers clean running at up to 40000 bottles per hour. Technomelt EM 325 325 has a number of advantages, such as a low running temperature (130 to 140°C) and it is suitable for both paper and plastic labels. Technomelt EM 325 can be used on a variety of applications, such a roll fed, cut & stack and by application by roller or spin spray systems. Technomelt EM 325 disperses in hot caustic soda solution, resulting in 98% adhesive removal, compared to 12 to 30% for traditional hot melt labelling adhesives. The product is dispersed, not dissolved in this caustic solution, so it can be screened out, which means that it does not create sticky residue in the recycling process. On the machine, Technomelt 325’s very high molten tack gives a more secure bond and great fibre tear on paper labels. Henkel’s user friendly x-tra packaging makes the product very easy to handle, protects it from contamination and means that there is no packaging material waste. The closed loop process means that PET bottles use around 55% recycled material, reducing their environmental impact substantially. KeelClip™ from Graphic Packaging International helps manufacturers of canned beverages eliminate single use plastics from their multipacking operation. The packaging is totally recyclable, as it uses specially designed adhesives from Henkel and recycled board. The design of KeelClip™ means that there is extra room for product promotion and the cans are securely held and can be removed easily when required.
Reducing the impact of packaging on the environment is a rapidly growing issue within the public conscience and consumers are making choices based on how sustainable the packaging of a product is. Henkel Adhesives are leading the way, offering companies new choices to keep up with these new demands.
For help and advice, Direct Adhesives have industry expertise to help you see how you can make a different choice and take your product further. Follow us for more. New Technomelt Supra 175 brings you new performance possibilities at an affordable price. Metallocene hot melt adhesives are now well known, with their stability being their most attractive asset. Great stability means less problems with hot melt adhesive degrading in the application tank, leading to blocked nozzles, lost production time and costly repairs. However, achieving the higher performance levels in terms of adhesion, temperature resistance and high molten tack came at a price, which could make it difficult to justify their use compared to more traditional EVA hot melt adhesives. Technomelt Supra 175 breaks that barrier and allows you to take your pack sealing operation to new heights.
Whether you are case or carton sealing or tray forming, Technomelt Supra 175 will cope with it all; high memory forces, low temperature storage or sealing warm packed goods. It has better adhesion than its peers, meaning that you can have the confidence on a wide range of finishes that your products will look their best. The adhesive, Technomelt GA 3980 Ultra gives higher adhesion and stronger binding on all perfect binding equipment, without any special equipment being needed. Technomelt GA3980 Ultra also has improved heat and cold resistance compared to typical bookbinding hot melt adhesives. Good spine preparation and adhesive film intergrity are key to get the best from Technomelt GA 3980 Ultra, as is the case with any perfect binding adhesive. 9/5/2019 0 Comments Our very own marathon man....![]() On Monday 6th May, Lewis McKenzie, who works in New Business Development at Leighton Buzzard, completed his first marathon.
